I'm 40+4 weeks pregnant, and I am being induced on Thursday, nervous! anyone got any advice or info?

I live in Germany so I will be in a German hospital, but I get the impression that the process is the same as in England, having the gel inserted. Does the gel being inserted hurt, is it done by a syringe? This is my first baby, and I'm quite frightened as well because of the language barrier, although I have translated a few words I might useful! How long after the gel has been inserted, do the contractions start? And what pain relief can you have whilst the contractions are happening? Anyone been through this process in Germany, would be even super duper helpful. thank you :-)
