I forgot how Veronica Mars Season 2 ended so I'm confused on watching season 3.?

I just started watching season 3 and am a bit confused. In the first episode Keith (VM's dad) picks someone up from jail and takes him to Kendall. The guy shoots Kendall and is after Keith now. Why did kendall go on the run? Who was the convict Keith picked up and why did keith pick him up? Why did the convict shoot kendall if they were getting all cozy on the couch? What is the money that he is looking for?
