Will the wood smell in my shelves go away?

The wood is called notty pine. A few days ago I went to my local lumber yard and had a couple of pieces of wood cut to make my child shelves. They came out wonderful, the only problem is the smell. She put her stuffed elephant on it last night, and now it smells of wood. She has a bunch of cabbage patch kids under the tree, and I really dont want them to smell the same. Will this smell ever vanish? I want her dolls to smell the way they are supposed to, so I dont want to try and spray the shelves with anything
